BRIDGE CLUB: What is Sustainable? Mooncup

As part of a  Knowledge Transfer Partnership project Tony Hicks and Joan Farrer have been working with the founders of Mooncup in recent years. Mooncup is an alternative re-useable tampon originally developed in the 1930s, and reproduced  8 years ago using silicon. They are having to continually expand their distribution and find new customers because the existing customers do not need to replace the product due to its longevity. So far it lasts at least 8 years. This relates to the wider issue of nappies, incontinence pads and sanitary towels as non biodegradable material that is filling landfills.
