Defining Sustainability

The trip to Alencon was an opportunity to discuss the scope of this project and consider what exactly we mean by the terms green, eco, and sustainable. Dave Saunders pointed out that the internationally recognised definition of sustainable originates from the Bruntland Report (1987): ““Sustainability is the intersection of people (social), planet (environmental) and profit (economic)” – known as the 3 legged stool, and that: “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
